The Ambassador of Sudan to India, Dr. Mohammed Abdalla Ali Eltom, has condemned the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for committing large-scale atrocities in Sudan’s Darfur region, calling the violence a “systematic campaign of terror and destruction” against civilians. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, he appealed for global solidarity, urged the international community to hold the RSF accountable, and lauded India’s continued humanitarian assistance to Sudan amid the crisis.

A video presentation shown during the briefing depicted disturbing scenes of mass killings, razed villages, and civilian displacement across Darfur. “The situation in Darfur is tragic and deeply painful,” Dr. Eltom said. “Thousands have been killed, millions displaced, and entire towns destroyed. The RSF and its allied militias have committed heinous crimes against civilians, including ethnic targeting and acts of genocide.”

The Ambassador accused foreign interference of fueling the ongoing conflict, specifically alleging that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been supplying weapons and drones to the RSF. “The RSF is not a national force; it is a militia supported from abroad. The supply of mechanized weapons and unmanned drones by external actors has prolonged the war and worsened the suffering of our people,” he said.

Sudan’s internal conflict, now entering its second year, has left the country on the brink of collapse. According to United Nations estimates, over 10 million people have been displaced, while more than half of Sudan’s population faces acute food insecurity. Cities such as El Geneina and Nyala in Darfur have witnessed large-scale massacres and destruction of public infrastructure.

Dr. Eltom urged stronger international condemnation of the RSF’s actions and appealed to nations such as India to use their diplomatic influence in support of peace, reconstruction, and accountability. “We believe India has always been an important partner to Sudan, both in times of peace and in times of crisis. India has provided humanitarian assistance during this conflict and continues to do so. We appreciate India’s role and look forward to its growing engagement during the reconstruction phase,” he said.

The Ambassador praised India’s ongoing humanitarian support — including food aid and the upcoming dispatch of artificial limb donations — and emphasized the potential for a mutually beneficial partnership in rebuilding Sudan’s war-ravaged infrastructure.

On the issue of an Indian national abducted by the RSF in the war-torn Al Fashir city, identified as 36-year-old Adarsh Behera from Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, Dr. Eltom said that situation is quite unpredictable and they are coordinating closely with both Sudanese authorities and India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to secure the individual’s safe release.
