In the recent past, there has been an increased focus on Africa, thanks to several high-level diplomatic visits both from India and several African countries. However, despite this all new dynamism, what still persists is countless myths and stereotypes about Africa. While, Africa is a rich and diverse continent, encompassing more than 1,500 languages and 16 percent of the world’s population, it has been the target of an unfathomable amount of stereotyping, which has led to the widespread belief of much false information. In India, there have been oversimplified, fixed assumptions about Africa and Africans, which has resulted in the spread of misinformation, hatred and racism expressing itself through violence and social boycott.
