President Droupadi Murmu received the credentials of the envoys of Nigeria, South Sudan, the UAE, Moldova, Germany and Sweden at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.
Among the six diplomats, Muhammad Saidu Dahiru, High Commissioner of Nigeria, and Sitona Abdalla Osman, Ambassador of South Sudan, represented India’s two African partners.
The ceremony comes as India continues to deepen its engagement with Africa, with Nigeria emerging as a key economic, energy and strategic partner, while South Sudan remains important for India’s development cooperation and engagement in the strategically significant East African and Nile region.
India–Nigeria ties span trade, energy, defence, pharmaceuticals, education and technology, with Indian companies maintaining a strong presence in the Nigerian economy. South Sudan, meanwhile, has benefited from India’s capacity-building and development partnership, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare and diplomatic training.
The presentation of credentials provides a fresh opportunity for New Delhi to further strengthen bilateral cooperation with both African countries as India expands its engagement with the continent and the wider Global South.
