To boost medical industry ties, the High Commissioner of Zambia to India H.E Mr. Percy P. Chanda and Counsellor (Health) Prof. Victor Mukonka held a series of meetings with hospital management at Yashoda and KIMS in Hyderabad, India, recently.
Yashoda and KIMS Hospitals are among the leading hospitals in India to which the Zambian Government sends patients for specialist treatment.
The purpose of the visit was to enhance and explore other areas of cooperation beyond the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed between the two hospitals and the Ministry of Health of Zambia such as capacity building among Zambian health personnel through skills transfer.
The other issue discussed during these meetings was the possibility of the two hospitals setting up in Zambia to localise the services for which patients are being evacuated to India.
After the engagements with the hospitals, the High Commissioner and Prof. Mukonka met all the Zambian patients admitted to the two hospitals. They also met caregivers and nurses from Zambia assigned to take care of the patients.
The High Commissioner and his team also held a meeting with management at Fortis Hospital.
Fortis is also one of the hospitals to which the Government of the Republic of Zambia refers patients for specialist treatment.
After an engagement with management, the High Commissioner and the Counsellor (Health) met the Zambian patients admitted to the hospital and caregivers.
