
His Excellency Ambassador Peter Munyiri, High Commissioner of the Republic of Kenya to India, paid a courtesy call on the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Smt. Mamata Banerjee, on the sidelines of the 8th edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), held in Kolkata on 5–6 February 2025.
During their meeting, Ambassador Munyiri and Chief Minister Banerjee discussed a range of issues centered on enhancing bilateral trade, investment opportunities, and collaborative avenues for growth. The dialogue emphasized the potential for strengthening economic partnerships between the State of West Bengal and the Government of Kenya, including engagement with Kenya’s devolved county governments. Both parties expressed a shared commitment to fostering inclusive growth through mutual cooperation in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, technology, education, and infrastructure development.
Held under the theme “Bengal Means Business,” the 2025 Bengal Global Business Summit attracted participation from over 40 countries, including top business leaders, international delegations, High Commissioners, and Ambassadors. The event served as a vibrant platform for dialogue, networking, and forging cross-border partnerships.
As part of the summit activities, Ambassador Munyiri actively engaged with global and regional stakeholders, promoting Kenya as a strategic gateway to Africa. At the Kenya booth within the BGBS exhibition center, he held productive interactions with various business delegations, investors, and entrepreneurs. He outlined the numerous investment opportunities available in Kenya and highlighted the country’s strategic location, investor-friendly policies, and ongoing reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business.
Ambassador Munyiri reiterated Kenya’s readiness to welcome Indian investors and encouraged stronger economic linkages between Kenyan counties and Indian states like West Bengal. He also extended an open invitation for further dialogue and collaboration through business delegations and trade missions.
The High Commission of Kenya remains committed to promoting economic diplomacy and deepening bilateral ties between Kenya and India at both national and sub-national levels.
