South African rural women to become ‘Solar Mamas’ in India

A delegation of 22 South African women from the North-West, Free State and Limpopo Provinces, who are attending the Solar Mamas training programme, reached India recently. Accompanying the group were also senior government officials from both national as well as the provinces of Free State and North-West. The training programme, which will run until the end of July 2024, is aimed at empowering women with skills on solar technology in the areas of installation, maintenance and repair of solar panels and systems. This would also enable the trainees to train others when they return to South Africa after the completion of the programme.
