The African Centre of India is set to bring a vibrant taste of Africa to the heart of New Delhi with the launch of the African Food Festival, a unique celebration of African culinary heritage, cultural diversity, and people-to-people connections. The event, scheduled to take place later this year, aims to promote greater cultural understanding and appreciation between Africa and India through the universal language of food.
Bringing together chefs, diplomats, students, and culture enthusiasts from across the African continent and India, the festival will showcase an exciting array of traditional African dishes from countries including Nigeria, Ethiopia, Morocco, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, and Senegal. From spicy jollof rice and Ethiopian injera to Moroccan tagines and South African bobotie, the event promises to be a gastronomic journey across Africa.
In addition to the food stalls, the festival will feature live cooking demonstrations, traditional music and dance performances, and interactive cultural showcases, offering a multisensory experience for visitors of all ages. African artisans and entrepreneurs based in India will also display handicrafts, textiles, and wellness products, adding a dynamic marketplace element to the festivities.
According to the African Centre of India, the festival is not just about food—it’s about fostering cultural exchange and strengthening the longstanding historical and contemporary ties between India and the African continent.
“We believe that cuisine is one of the most powerful expressions of identity and heritage,” said a spokesperson from the African Centre of India. “Through this festival, we hope to bring communities together, celebrate Africa’s rich culinary diversity, and provide a platform for African voices and traditions to be shared and appreciated in India.”
The African Food Festival also reflects the growing presence and contributions of African students, professionals, and diaspora communities in India. By creating space for cultural expression, the event aims to promote inclusivity, cross-cultural dialogue, and mutual respect.
Supported by several African embassies in India, educational institutions, and cultural organizations, the festival is expected to attract a large audience including diplomats, students, food lovers, and members of the general public.
Entry to the festival will be open to all, and updates on the venue, schedule, and participating vendors will be announced soon via the African Centre of India’s official platforms.
